WT “Bill” Bennett has been in the cattle business all his life, and has registered more Hereford cattle than anyone else in the world. And this year's calf crop is exceptional in its quality. BB Cattle Company has herd bull prospects out of Yankee, 1065, 3007, and two Neon sons, just to name a few. These bulls have the size and style to make great seed stock whether it is for the purebred breeder or the commercial man.
It all began for Bill at 10 years old in 1937 when he got his first calf, a Shorthorn. As he grew up in the cattle business, he had his eye set on a ranch of his own and a herd second to none. By 1957, he was in charge of beef cattle at Washington State University.
In 1963, he left WSU to partner with Harold “Feathers” Thompson of TT Herefords, the number one Mark Donald herd in the area. They marketed cattle through consignment sales until 1966 when Harold and Bill held the first production sale in the area. Since then, Bill hasn't missed a production sale and really came into his own when he started BB Cattle Co. in 1970, holding his own sale that year. As the business grew, the Bennett family created the best Hereford genetics found anywhere in the world, right at their place in Connell, Washington.
Last February's (2011) spring event was our 41st sale. Now, our Annual Spring Sale is coming up very soon on February 13, 2012 and it will be our 42nd! As much as we've changed over the years, we've always been dedicated to one thing: purebred Hereford cattle of superior quality for today's demanding cattle industry.

With Bill and Norma (slowly!) retiring now, BB Cattle Company is moving into the future with son Joe Bennett and his partner Arden Gremmert. (This doesn't mean Bill and Norma won't be around to answer the phones and to stop in for a visit. It'll be easy for you to get Bill to show you around on most days!)
Arden and his wife Eva have known Bill, Joe, and family since 1991 when Arden began his work as Promotion Director for the Washington State Beef Commission. He comes from a grocery and meat marketing background, not from the cattle industry, and his first experience on the Bennett place was a real eye opener. Arden immediately made a big discovery: he loved the purebred ranching life. Like many Americans, the draw was unmistakable and strong. Open air, land, cattle, horses, and sunshine all make living and working in this great industry a fulfilling lifestyle that is only dreamed of by most people.
Now, Joe and Arden have a new company called BB Ranch Operations, LLC. It will run BB Cattle Company just like the famous brand it is today. Each has his own unique set of specialties and skills that will propel the business forward. Joe is a nationally recognized Hereford purebred professional and an AHA Herdsman of the Year. Arden is a highly effective and experienced marketing, advertising, promotion, and business management professional with nearly 14 years service to the American Hereford Association's Certified Hereford Beef® program.Eva, Arden's wife, is a very talented accountant and tax preparation professional with a very large private practice. These skills,and those of our extended family members, create the perfect team to grow and develop BB Cattle Company for the nextgeneration.
